The house gained notoriety in 1826 when a landslide struck during a severe storm, tragically killing several family members and their hired hands. An example of early New England architecture, the house was abandoned after the disaster and became a symbol of the region’s harsh weather. Restored in the late 20th century, it now serves as a museum managed by the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources, offering seasonal tours that provide insight into the life of early settlers in the White Mountains. Visitors can explore the historical significance of the site while enjoying the beautiful views and hiking opportunities of the surrounding Crawford Notch area.
