As the sun dips below the Pacific on the Big Island of Hawaii, it bathes the scene in a golden glow. Waves crash against the black lava rocks, creating mist. The sky ignites with fiery reds, oranges, pinks, and purples. As the sun sinks, the colors deepen, painting clouds with gold and pink streaks, and the ocean mirrors the fiery hues. The waves keep crashing, now illuminated by the setting sun’s golden light. By video’s end, the sky darkens, with faint red and rose hues. The moon’s reflection shimmers on the ocean. The waves, gentler now, seem to be lulled to sleep by the breathtaking sunset.

The lava rocks on the shore serve as a poignant reminder of the island’s volcanic history. The Big Island is the residence of two active volcanoes, Kilauea and Mauna Loa. Eruptions from these volcanoes have played a pivotal role in shaping the island’s terrain, contributing to the presence of distinctive lava rocks along the coastline. These lava rocks are a remarkable and captivating aspect of the Big Island’s natural landscape, imparting a unique and extraordinary quality to its beaches and shoreline. Especially during sunset, when the lava rocks are bathed in the warm, golden light of the setting sun, they create a truly enchanting and awe-inspiring scene.

Our filmmaker Roman Khomlyak shot this awe-inspiring video during the winter of 2023 on the Big Island of Hawaii, using a Panasonic Lumix DC GH-6, a high-end mirrorless camera with a full-frame sensor and advanced video capabilities. He also used the Lensbaby Sol 22mm F/3.5 lens, a unique lens that allows to create of a spot of focused brilliance surrounded by a velvety bokeh. In the hands of Roman Khomlyak, this equipment creates a truly charming atmosphere in this video. The footage is sharp and detailed, with vibrant colors and rich contrast.
