Vorskla is one of the biggest rivers on the Left Bank of Ukraine. It’s known for its rich historical past, stretching 464 kilometers through the Belgorod region, Sumy, and Poltava regions. There are different theories about the river’s origin, but the most likely meaning of “Vorskla” is “forest river” due to the surrounding forests. Legend has it that Tsar Peter I dropped his telescope in the river and called it the “glass thief”, but that’s just a myth. The first mention of this river was in Russian chronicles back in 1106, and it’s been referred to with various spelling variations throughout the centuries.
