The Boy Scout Tree Trail is a 5.5-mile out-and-back trail in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, California. The trail is moderately challenging, with an elevation gain of 800 feet. It is a popular trail for hiking, running, and backpacking. The trail winds through a variety of habitats, including old-growth redwood forest, riparian areas, and mixed-species woodlands. Hikers can expect to see a variety of plants and animals, including redwoods, ferns, mosses, lichens, deer, squirrels, and birds. The trail is named for the Boy Scout Tree, a giant double tree resembling the two-fingered Boy Scout salute. The tree is located about 2.5 miles from the trailhead. The trail ends at Fern Falls, a small cascade at the edge of the redwoods. The falls are not very tall, but they are a beautiful sight to behold.
