The Stout Memorial Grove Trail, spanning a short 0.5-mile distance along the scenic Smith River, is situated on the river’s edge, offering a serene atmosphere. A brief detour trail descends twenty feet to the Smith River, where the cobbled beach attracts summer activities like picnicking, paddling, and swimming. In the summer, hikers cross the Smith River using a bridge in Stout Grove, known for its straightforward loop with minimal elevation changes. A short walk from the split leads to the Stout Tree, the largest in the grove, a towering 300-foot giant considered the heart of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. This 44-acre grove of old-growth redwoods is a sought-after summer destination, requiring time and effort for the journey, making a two-hour allocation advisable.

In June 2023, our filmmaker Roman Khomlyak, along with his second operator Mykhailo Feshchak, ventured to capture the breathtaking trails of Redwood National and State Parks. Employing the Panasonic Lumix GH6 Mirrorless Camera paired with the ultra-wide-angle Venus Optics Laowa 6mm f/2 Zero-D Lens on the DJI RS 3 Mini Gimbal Stabilizer, Roman aimed for optimal shooting conditions. The resulting video, shot in 4K at 120fps, provides a visually immersive experience.
