Meandering alongside the path, you’ll encounter numerous babbling streams, tributaries of the Prut River, while the trail itself is adorned with soft emerald moss and delicate ferns, adding an extra layer of charm to your journey.

Mount Khomyak, standing proudly at 1542 meters above sea level, derives its moniker from the ridge’s uncanny resemblance to a hamster’s back. Comprised of sturdy sandstones, the mountain showcases a multifaceted personality – a stony crown at its zenith, rolling mountain valleys and gnarled forests in the middle section, and a cloak of mixed and coniferous woodlands at its base. Despite its modest altitude, the region surrounding the mountain has been designated as avalanche-prone terrain.

Oleksii embarked on his expedition from a checkpoint, following a trail that leads to the famed Zhenetskiy Guk waterfall, serving as the ultimate destination. Here, Oleksii spent the night, descending the following morning to Polonina Khomyakiv (Khomyaks’ mountain meadow) – a lofty alpine pasture adorned with charming seasonal wooden huts, inhabited by shepherds during the summer months. Delight in the opportunity to sample fresh cheese and vurda from these hospitable locals. The meadow is also a treasure trove of stunning flora, boasting wild violets, edelweiss, poppies, and crocuses.

Continuing your journey, you and Oleksii will meander through the dense Carpathian forest, eventually emerging at a mesmerizing waterfall. Zhenetsky Guk, born in the post-war years following a tumultuous flood, stands an impressive 900 meters above sea level. A cascading stream of water tumbles from a cliff, plummeting a remarkable 15 meters and splintering into myriad rivulets. This natural wonder resides within the pristine confines of the Carpathian National Natural Park. A relatively steep path leads to it from the Khomyaks’ mountain meadow, while a flat asphalt road guides you from Zhenetsky Huk to the Ivano-Frankivsk highway.

Though this trail garners substantial tourist traffic year-round, Oleksii found himself fortunate to tread its path virtually alone, encountering fellow adventurers only upon reaching the waterfall itself.
