Harry’s Ridge Trail was a popular moderate hike offering stunning views of Mount St. Helens and the surrounding landscape. Following the eastern crest of the ridge, it led hikers to a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking Spirit Lake, the displaced by the 1980 eruption, and even offered glimpses of Mount Adams further east. Though not an overly challenging hike, it provided a good workout with an 1830-foot elevation gain over its 8.5-mile round trip length. While closed now, it remains a highly anticipated future option for hikers seeking panoramic vistas and an immersive experience in the shadow of Mount St. Helens.

Unfortunately, Harry’s Ridge Trail is currently closed due to safety concerns. The closure of Harry’s Ridge Trail is due to a major landslide that occurred on State Route 504 near milepost 51, close to the Johnston Ridge Observatory. This happened in November 2023 and significantly impacted access to the trailhead.

But luckily, our filmmaker Roman Khomlyak, together with his second cameraman Mikhail Feshchak, was present here on October 18, 2022, and captured this breathtaking view. The challenging journey, made even more arduous by the weather conditions, required a significant amount of water for navigation. Equipped with a GoPro Hero 11 Black camera, they documented the expedition. Despite the challenges of trekking under the blazing sun to witness the crater, smoke from the fires, and the captivating Spirit Lake, the experience was considered rewarding. Upon their return, they walked back along the trail in darkness for several more hours with the aid of flashlights. This 8K HDR cinematic adventure beckons viewers to join our filmmakers at the base of the magnificent Mount St. Helens and savor the beauty of nature from three distinct perspectives.
