On beautiful and powerful banks of the largest river in Russia lies the city of Ulyanovsk. Let’s take a walk along its history-filled streets on a snowy winter day. We start our journey to the Houses of Officers of the Ulyanovsk Garrison (00:00:00) on Spasskaya Street. The walk has just begun, and we have already seen the Governor’s Palace of Friendship of Peoples (00:05:24) and the Drama Theater (00:06:50). Of course, much in Ulyanovsk is dedicated to Vladimir Ulyanov – Lenin. Here he lived, walked along these streets, breathed this air, and admired the mighty current of the Volga. Now the house where the Soviet statesman and politician and the founder of the Communist Party lived is the Lenin Museum 28:49. Walking through the snowy city on the river, it is impossible not to notice how modern buildings harmoniously coexist with houses of the past and the century before last. Mariinsky Gymnasium (01:01:20) is a prime example of this. And a bright yellow two-story building at the intersection of Dvortsovaya Street and Goncharova Street, previously owned by Alexander Konurin, the largest merchant of salt and fabrics in the Volga region at the end of the 19th century (01:14:35).
